Abstract
278,049. Baxter, C. June 2, 1926. Driving-gear.-In order to avoid dead centres in crank - driving gear for engines &c., the small end of the connecting-rod c is formed with lateral extensions, one, f, of which is connected to the piston &c. by means allowing relative lateral movement whilst the other extension h is connected to the piston &c. by means allowing relative movement in the direction of the stroke. In Fig. 1, the extension f is slotted to have a pivotal and lateral sliding movement about a pin g whilst the extension h is connected by a radius link k to the usual gudgeon pin l at or near the centre of the piston. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the ends of the lateral extensions are connected by links o, p to an intermediate slide block m.
