Abstract
316,696. Marchetti, P. May 9, 1928. Cam-actuated pumps.-Means for converting reciprocating into rotary motion and vice versa, for driving gears of internal combustion engines &c., comprises two pistons or purely reciprocating members co-operating with two rotary cams through two rollers &c. riding thereon, each roller being connected to its piston through a connect. ing rod and being guided by a radius arm, the two radius arms being interconnected so that the rollers are maintained in contact with the cam surfaces. As applied to a radial cylinder engine Fig. 3, the pistons 3 are associated in pairs, the connecting rods 5 carrying rollers 6, 6<1> riding on elongated cams 4, 4<1> shaped and relatively set according to the piston accelerations &c. The rollers are constrained by radius arms 7 on pivots 8, 8<1>, extensions of the arms being coupled by a link 10. In a modification wherein the cylinders are not equally spaced, single pivots serve for adjacent radius arms of respective pairs. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, in which the cylinders 1 are parallel and the cams 4 are arranged at right angles, the piston stroke is greater than the cam throw, the rollers 6 being carried by the arms 7 between the pivots 8 and the points of connection 11 to the connecting rods 5. Alternative means for interconnecting the radius arms 7 comprise links coupling their outer ends of a centrally pivoted lever. Specification 310,632 is referred to.
