Aluminium and its alloys, obtaining.-In obtaining aluminium and its alloys by electrolysis of alumina in a flux such as cryolite, alumina is employed which has been obtained by disintegrating the highly heated material and rapidly cooling it in water or other suitable liquid. The alumina may be melted before quenching, but heating to 1300‹ C. is sufficient. The product dissolves easily in the flux even when the granular size is as great as 3 mm.
