Abstract

276,418. Clapham, C. F. May 20, 1926. Windows and the like, cleaning.-A strip of rubber 20 is held by a member 22 connected at each end to two cables, one of which passes over a movable pulley 30 and is attached to a lug 31 in a casing 1 secured to the screen, the other cable being passed over a fixed pulley 11 and a movable pulley 8, and being attached to a lug 10. The pulley 8 is connected to a spring 6. Each pulley 30 is connected to a cable 29<a> attached to a ring so that when the ring is pulled the wiper traverses the screen against the action of the springs 6. The wiping member 22 is guided by means of a grooved member 26 at each end thereof which engages a slot 27 in the casing 1 and permits a limited rocking movement of the member 22. In order that the strip 20 may engage the screen when the wiper is moving in one direction only, each end of the member 22 carries a projection 12 provided with a spring- pressed pad 12a which is adapted to press against the rear wall of the casing 1. The wiper may be duplicated for V-shaped screens, but only three casings need be employed, the middle one acting solely as a guide for the inner ends of the wipers.
