Abstract
275,687. Stephens, S. Jan. 31, 1927. Reel and non-endless web apparatus.-In advertising devices in which a display band is wound from one drum to another, which drums are driven through a free-wheel arrangement whereby the winding-off drum is disconnected from the drive, one or both of the free-wheels consists of a loose sleeve c mounted on the drum spindle b and carrying pivotally mounted pawls g which engage ratchets h, h<1> disposed above and below the sleeve on the drum f and driving pulley e respectively. The current through the motor is reversed at the end of each wind by a switch operated by fingers moving along a screw rod rotated from one of the pulleys e. A curtain is lowered during movement of the band in one direction, and raised during initial movement in the opposite direction, by a cord 6 passing round the curtain roller and having its ends wound in opposite ways on a spool 4 driven by friction discs 1, 2 on the drum f and spool spindle 3, or by a friction segment engaging a pulley shaft. A flange and band brake may be disposed on the top of each drum f.
