Abstract
275,326. Carpmael, W., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 4, 1926. Oxynaphthocarbazoles are obtained by condensing hydrazines with naphthol- or naphthylamine-sulphonic acids in the presence of bisulphite and subsequently fusing with caustic alkali. In examples, 7-oxy--2 : 1-naphthocarbazole and 6-oxy-1 : 2-naphthocarbazole are obtained by condensing phenylhydrazine with 1-naphthylamine-7-sulphonic acid and 2-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid respectively; other oxynaphthocarbazoles may be similarly obtained from 1-naphthol-5- or 6-sulphonic acid and 2-naphthol-5-or-7-sulphonic acid. In another example, 7-oxy-2 : 1-naphtho- 3<1>-methylcarbazole is obtained from 1-naphthol-7- sulphonic acid and :3-methylphenylhydrazine. Oxydinaphthocarbazoles and their substitution derivatives are similarly obtained from naphthylamine- or naphthol-sulphonic acids and hydrazines of the naphthalene series. 7-Oxydinaphthocarbazole may be thus obtained from 3-naphthol- 7-sulphonic acid and 2-naphthylhydrazine. 7-Oxy-2 : 1-naphthobromcarbazole is obtained by brominating 7-oxy-2 : 1-naphthocarbazole.
