Abstract
275,289. Marks, E. C. R., (Freyn Engineering Co.). April 7, 1926. Hot-blast stoves; gas-heating furnaces.-In order to minimize choking of hot-blast stoves fired by washed blast-furnace gas, the gas is passed through a heater before admission to the stoves with the result that the dust which escapes the washer is deposited in the heater (whence it can readily be removed) and the flame temperature in the stoves is increased owing to the gas being dried in the heater. The heater comprises header chambers 31, 32 connected by relatively long narrow tubes through which the gas is passed and which are exposed to hot waste gas from the stoves or other units. The headers have sludge outlets 34 and manholes. A bye-pass for cutting out the washer and heater is provided, also a water seal to prevent backflow of gas when the blast furnace is shut down.
