Abstract
274,238. Wheatley, F., and Winn, J. Feb. 11, 1927. Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-Relates to combined number plates and signalling apparatus of the drum type for use on vehicles. The drum 2 which bears appropriate directions, is loosely mounted on a spindle 3, and is positioned by a wire 6 passing to a drum actuated by a lever placed near the driver. The wire is connected) to a flange 5 on the drum 2. and a returning spring 7 is housed in the end' of the drum. The tension of the spring 7 is adjusted by turning a toothed disc 9 to which the inner end of the spring is secured. The disc 9 is locked by engaging a fixed toothed disc 11, and is pressed by an adjustable spring 10. The drum 2 is formed of transparent material and may be lighted by a lamp 30 which also illuminates the built-up stencil number plate in the front of the casing 1. The drum 2 may serve as a rear light. Front and rear indications may be actuated by a common operating lever.
