Abstract

274,123. Langer, T. July 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Baffles.-The smokebox of a locomotive or the like is provided with a depending baffle 7, 8, 9, 11 arranged in front of the smoke tubes and with its lower edge spaced from the bottom of the smoke box to leave a passage 5 which is not larger than the sectional area of the smoke tubes. An additional baffle 12, 14 at the front of the smokebox has its lower edge spaced from the baffle described above so as to leave a passage 6 not greater than the passage 5. The baffles are provided with removable doors or plates 9, 14, the door 14 being hinged and adjustable in position by means of a bolt 15 adapted to engage with boles 20 in segmental plates 19.
