Abstract

273,660. Daloze, R. July 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Lead carbonate; lead acetate.-Crude lead sulphate and an excess of an alkaline earth acetate in solution are mixed and the insoluble matter separated, whereon the clear solution is treated with a base to form tribasic lead acetate in solution, which is decomposed by carbon dioxide to yield lead carbonate. The excess of calcium acetate is such that, after separating precipitated calcium sulphate, on adding calcium hydrate and precipitating lead carbonate with carbon dioxide, the original solution of calcium acetate is reformed. The solution may contain three equivalents of calcium acetate to one of lead acetate, and react with two equivalents of lead sulphate. Any iron present may be filtered off as insoluble tribasic iron acetate.
