Abstract

Shedding-motions; shedding-tappets; tappet shafts.-In looms for weaving heavy fabrics such as carpets, the shedding-tappets are mounted on a short shaft g, Fig. 3, disposed parallel to and in rear of the crank-shaft c at about the same vertical level. A pinion on the crank-shaft meshes with a pinion i on a countershaft h having a second pinion in gear with a wheel m fast with the tappets. The countershaft, the tappet shaft, and the shaft s on which the tappet levers are mounted are journaled in the side frame d, Fig. 1, and at their outer ends in an auxiliary frame e. The front ends of each adjacent pair of tappet-levers, r<1>, r<2> are each connected by a chain v', v<2> to a drum v<3> loosely mounted on a shaft mounted between the frames e, d, so that, as one lever is depressed by its bowl z, the other is raised to draw down the heald. The levers r<1>, r<2> control the healds for the binder warps, the heald for the stuffer warp being controlled by a third lever operated by a tappet o. A fourth tappet lever r<4> operated by a dummy tappet o<2>, and the third tappet lever are connected by chains w<1>, w<3> to a loose drum w<2> to balance the heald. The pairs of tappets are made in blocks secured by bolts to the gear wheel m.
