Abstract

273,067. Groves, W. W., (American Gas Construction Co.). May 25, 1926. Fluid-actuated valves; closure members, simple lift; spindles.-A steam-power operated hot valve for gas-making &c. plant comprises a sharpedge seating ring 13 and a valve plate 14 with an annular surface 14a which is moved rapidly to its seating, in closing, so as to cut through deposits. The seating is cooled by a water jacket 9 with supply and outlet pieps 10, 11. The valve plate is swivel mounted on the spindle by means of groove 16<a>, split hemi-spherical head 15, and securing ring 17, and a plate 18, as shown. The valve plate is formed cup-shaped, as shown, to hold cooling water, which is supplied by pipes 27, 28. The operating piston 22 is controlled by an auxiliary valve supplying and exhausting steam through pipes 24 and 25 respectively.
