Reversing. - A double-seat valve 6 for controlling a reversible turbine is adapted to be moved by a hand-wheel 12 so as to connect the steam supply pipe leading to the forward-running stages or with the branch 11 leading to the astern - running stages. The valve may also be moved to an intermediate position. A member 14 secured to the valve spindle 4 slides in slots 20 in the upright 18 and holds the spindle against turning. A bore 5 in the spindle admits hot steam thereto in the position shown, and obviates undue pressure on the seat 2 due to cooling. A hole 19 leads steam from the bore 5 to an annular groove 18 in the valve spindle, thereby obviating leakage of air through the stuffing-box 16. To facilitate the manipulation of the valve 6, a cutoff valve is first closed in the supply pipe leading to the branch 9.
