Furnace details.-The electrode holder h of a smelting furnace is insulated from the feed mechanism at parts of the furnace not subjected to heat such as the guide rollers a, b and the pin g by which the holder is coupled to the piston rod r. The guide rollers may comprise outer and inner parts k, n separated by mica, insulation i, Figs. 2 or 3. The head of the piston rod may carry a bush surrounded by insulation or may be made in two parts, the insulation being applied directly to the pin. The pivot pin and the axle of the guide rollers may be made of insulating material.
