Induction and resistance furnaces.-An induction and resistance furnace for annealing and melting metals has sections 1 of magnetic material with insulated resistance rods 5 mounted therein. The sections are flanged and bolted together, and may be spaced from each other by refractory material or by air-gaps 7, Fig. 2. Each section may be in two parts separated by an airgap 6, Fig. 1, or by insulating material, the width of which may be adjustable to vary the power factor. The circuits are arranged to neutralize the mutual induction. The arrangement is stated to avoid deformation due to heat.
