[Class 109] [Also in Group XI] In a machine for covering wire with sheet material such as plasticized polyvinyl chloride compositions by the longitudinal method, means are provided for heating the covering material 2 immediately prior to its entry to the nip of the grooved nipping rolls 3 so that the seams formed at each side of the wire adhere satisfactorily. The heating means may be of the high frequency electric type and a resistance heater may be provided for each of the high frequency electrodes. A pair of electrodes may be provided for each sheet of insulating material, and the electrodes may be fixed metal strips or consist of travelling bands 9. The electrodes and their supporting and driving pulleys are mounted inside a closed casing having double walls between which slag wool is placed, and the grooved nipping rolls 3 may be heated by hot water, steam, gas jets or by electric means.
