Abstract

629,371. Dielectric heating. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. June 17, 1947, No. 15913. Convention date, June 21, 1946. [Class 39(iii)] In order to avoid loss of heat from the surface of material 4 to the surrounding medium, greater dielectric heating effect is provided at the surfaces by forming the electrodes 10, 11, as shown in dish shape. The reduced distance d as compared with d<SP>1</SP> causes increased heating at the surfaces which compensates for normal heat losses and results in uniform heating throughout the width of the material. In a modification flat electrodes are employed with a peripheral conductor in place of the flange of the dish shaped electrode. In this case the peripheral conductors are spaced closer together than the plate electrodes as represented by distance d above, and are electrically connected to their respective plate electrodes.
