Abstract

Odometers.-The parts of a hub-odometer are arranged to prevent passage of dirty oil from the space u surrounding the end of the vehicle axle c to the space e containing the registering mechanism d. The space e is partially or wholly filled with castor oil or other clear oil and is sealed by packing rings g secured by the glass plate f and a packing ring h held by the disc which is screwed into the hub cap a. To the disc j is fixed a cam q which actuates the pawl r of the registering mechanism mounted on the disc s, as described in Specification 258,714. Leakage preventing grooves t are provided around the spindle o of the disc s. The spindle is connected to the axle c by a flexible key x which is forced into a curved diametral groove y in a ring n, to which is secured by screws a double spring helix m. The ring forms one part of a ball race, the other part being formed by a disc v fixed to the disc j. The coupling prevents the spindle o of the instrument from being influenced by lateral pressures.
