Abstract
271,060. Naamlooze Vennootschap de Vereenigde Ijzerfabrieken de Vijf. May 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Driving. - A centrifugal machine, particularly a machine for spinning artificial silk, is provided with means to ensure that the shaft bearing the centrifugal cup executes an upward and downward movement. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the shaft 1 carries the cup 2 and is permitted by the feather 4 to slide in the sleeve 6 while rotating with it. The casing supports the stator 3 of the motor and the rotor is attached to the sleeve 6. Wheels 8, 12 with differing numbers of teeth are secured to the subsidiary shaft 13, and the former 8 gears with a driving wheel 7 on the sleeve 6 while the latter 12 gears with a wheel 11 having a stud 10 moving in right and left-handed threads on the lower portion 9 of the shaft 1. The movement of the stud 10 while the machine is operating causes the shaft 1 to move up and down. The lower portion 9 may be fitted removably to the shaft 1. In a modification a worm on the sleeve 6 operates a worm-wheel and an eccentric disc thereby causing a lever to oscillate to raise and lower the shaft 1. In another modification a cylinder 23, Fig. 3, is driven from the sleeve 6 through worm gearing, and has a helical groove 22 in which runs a roller 24 on a rod 25 which is free to slide in its supports. This rod. in turn, is connected by a rocking lever 28 to a rod 29 which is attached by a ball joint 30 to the machine spindle 1. This joint may be replaced by a disc in ball bearings.
