My invention has reference to an improvement in .spinning machines and more partlcularly to an improvement in wool spinning f machines.
In the usual construction of cotton spinning machines the upper drawing rolls are covered with leather. When no tra-versemetion is used to move the yarn back and forth between the rolls, the yarn coming straight between the rolls, willwear a groove in the leather covered rolls and thus ruin the utility of these rolls. been overcome bythe use of a mechanism which traverses the yarn back andforth between the drawing rolls. This traversing mechanism is used in the form of a spinning ' Y Y hers 1, 2, 3 and 4. Twister heads, 5, 5 are machine known as a cotton spinning frame, but is useless in acwool spinningy machine, owing to the difference in the construction of these machines.
The object of m'y invention -is to improve traversing or endwise motion of the draw-l ing rolls is extremely slow compared with the revolving speed .ofthe drawing rolls.

The machine B has the usual frame memmechanism, not shown, of the machine, as
i shown in Figure 1. The back leather covered drawing rolls 13.' 13, have trunnions 14,14 rest-ing on flat ends of an arm 15 secured to a rod 16, as shown in Figure 5, which in turn is` fixed to an extension on the closed casing 21, as shown in Figure 2. n A bell crank lever 17 is pivotally supported on a frame member of the machine and has a vertical arm 18, the lower end of which bears againstthe trunnions 14, 14, of the back rolls 13, 13, as shown in Figure 5 and a horizontal arm 19 on which is an adjustable weight 20, as shown in Figure 2. This weighted bell-crank lever 17, forces the back drawing rolls 13, 13, against the front drawing rolls 7, 7, thereby giving the required bite of the rolls on the yarnD, which now comes straight downwards through the twister heads and drawing rolls.
.11 on a shaft 12 connected to the driving driven shaft 9 as shown in Figure l, whereby the driven shaft 9 extends through and revolves in the casing 21 and the casing` 2l has a reciprocating motion with the driven shaft 9. The closed casing 21 has a. front outside bearing 2li and a rear outside bearing 25. Fixed to the driven shaft 9 is a worm 26meshing with a worm gea-r 27 having a cylindrical hub 23 rotatably supported on a fixed cylindrical. gear 11113.29, which in, turn is supported on a shaft 30, rotatably supported at each end in the front and rear outside bearings 2l and 25. A gear 3l having nineteen teeth is formed integral with the fixed gear huby 29 and a gear having twenty teeth is fined to the shaft- 30. Itevolviwr of the driven shaft 9 revolves the front drawing rolls 7, 7, the worm 26, worn'i gear 27, pinion 34 and gear 32, thereby revolving the shaft 30' part of a revolution, equal to one tooth of the gear 32", or one twentieth part of a revolution and thro-ugh the cranks' 35, 35, crank pins 36, 36' and arms 37, 37, a traversing or an endwise reciprocating motion, is given to the front and back drawing rolls and to th e closed casing 2i. and the mechanism in the casing, equal to the throw of the crank pins 36, 36.
By the new and novel construction of my improved traversing motion for wool spinning machines, the required sl'ow endwise reciprocating motion given to the drawing rolls while the yarn is drawn straight down between the rolls, thereby eliminatingl undue wear by the yarn, on the rolls.
Itis evident that the ratio ot the gearing and the throw of the cranl; pins could be materially modified and other details of construction could be changed within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new l. In a spinningA machine having the usuall frame, driving mechanism and drawing rolls, a driven shaft operatively connected with the. driving mechanism and with the drawing rolls, to revolve the drawing rolls, a drawing roll traversing motion suspended from theV driven shaft and operatively connected with the driven shaft and means for operatively connecting the drawing roll traversing motion with a relatively `fixed part of the machine, whereby the drawing rolls are simultaneously given a revolving and a traversing motion, for the purpose as described.
2. Ina spinning machine having the usual frame, driving mechanism and drawing rolls, said drawing rolls being on a: drijven shaft operatively connected with the driving mechanism, a drawing roll traversing motion suspended from the drivenshaft of the drawing rolls and operatively connected with the driven shaft and means for operatively' connecting the drawing roll traversing motion with a relatively Yfixed part of the machine, whereby the dra-wing rolls are y.simultaneously given a revolving and an endwise reciprocating motion, for the purpose as described.
3. In a spinning machine having the usual frame, driving mechanism, a driven shaft and drawing rolls on the driven shaft, said driven shaft beingv operatively connected with the driving mechanism, a drawing roll traversing mechanism suspended from the driven shaft and operatively connected with the driven sha-ft and connecting members. operatively connected with the drawing roll traversing mechanism and with a. fixed part of the machine, for the purpose as: described.
4:. In a spinning machine having the usual frame', driving mechanism, a driven shaft having drawing' rolls and operatively connected with* the driving mechanism., a casing suspended from the driven shaft and operatively connected with the driven shaft,
a drawing roll traversing mechanism in the casing and operatively connected with the driven shaft, and arms operatively connecting the drawing roll traversing mechanism with a fixed' part of the machine, for the purpose as described.
5. In a spinning machine havin-g the usual frame, driving mechanism, a driven shaft having drawing rolls and operativelyv connected with the driving mechanism, a closed. casing in which is a` drawing rol-l traversing mechanism said. casing"being suspended from the driven shaft andv operatively connected with the (il-rivela shaft and arms pivotally se cured tothe:- drawing roll traversing mechanism and to a fixed part of the machine, for the purposeas described.

The combination with a spinning machine having aI frame, a driving mechanism, a driven shaft having drawing roll-s and operatively connected with the driving mechanism', of a closed' casing suspended from the driven shaft and operatively connected with thedrifven shaft, a drawingA roll traversing mechanism in the casing and operatively connected with the driven shaft and means operatively connecting the drawing roll travn ersing mechanism with a part of the ma chine frame, for the purpose as described.
7. The combination with a spinning machine having a frame, a driving mechanism, a driven shaft having drawing rolls and operatively connected with the driving mechanism of a easing suspended from the driven shaft, arms operatively connecting the casing with a part of the machine frame, a worm fixed to the driven shaft, a shaft rotatably supported in the casing, a train of gears operatively connecting the worm with the casing shaft, whereby the driven shaft and drawing rolls are revolved and given a traversing motion, in the machine.

The combination with a spinning machine having a driving mechanism, a driven shaft with drawing rolls and operatively connected with the driving mechanism, of a drawing roll traversing mechanism suspended fromv the driven shaft and operatively connected with the driven shaft and means for operatively connecting the drawing roll traversing mechanismvwith a fixed part of` nected with the driving mechanism, of a casv ing operatively connected with the driven drawing roll shaft, a transverse shaft rotatably supported in bearings in the casing,
cranks on the transverse shaft, a worm fixed i to the driven drawing roll shaft, a gear having an even number of teeth fixed to the transverse shaft, a gear having an odd number of teeth and a hub krotatably supported on the transverse shaft, a worm gear meshing with the worm and having a hub rotatably supported on the hub of the odd number of teeth gear, a stud on the worm gear, a pinion on the stud straddling and meshing with both the even and odd teeth gears, arms operatively connecting the cranks on the transverse shaft with a part ofthe machine frame, back rolls engaging the driven drawing rolls and yI'neans for operatively connecting the back rolls'with the easing of the drawing roll traversing mechanism, for the purpose as de scribed. y* 1n testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
