Locks, permutation, for use in place of the usual revolving barrel mechanism of night latches for operating both a bolt and a latch, comprise a rotatable latch bolt operating spindle locked by a bolt which is in turn blocked by independently set notched discs. The spindle 21 is operated by the handle 22 to turn the connector-bar 23 which operates the follower when the legs 34 of the bolt 33 are in the notches 35 of of the discs 27. A slot 39 in the spindle has a flat base 40 co-acting with the bolt 33 which is actuated by springs 42, Fig. 6. to lock the spindle against movement when the discs are not set. The permutation elements comprise locking elements having each a hub 37, a flange 36 containing the bolt notch 35 and false notches 46, and a flange 27 having projections 32, and setting elements having each recesses 31 to house the projections 32 and a flange 28 capping the flange 27 and carrying the indicia and notches 47. The elements are mounted on a shaft 30 carrying a collar 51, spring 60 and cap 57 at one end. To change the combination, the cap 57 is pushed inwards, the bolt and element being previously adjusted so that the legs 34 enter the slots 59, moving the locking discs to the left to separate the lugs 32 from the recesses 31. The setting discs are then turned to the new combination and the elements reengaged. The setting may be by sight or sound, a " zero " notch 50 being provided in the latter case.
