Abstract

270,541. Wertaur, M. von., and Caplan, S. June 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Exhaust, treating; exhaust silencers. - For eliminating carbon monoxide and silencing exhaust gases, a casing 5 contains a series of spaced transverse baffles, comprising screened holders filled with a mixture of particles of gas-absorbent material such as charcoal and of an agent for oxidizing carbon monoxide such as potassium permanganate. The baffles consist alternately of annular screened holders 12 held in grooves 11 in the casing and cylindrical holders 21 mounted in rings 18 spaced from the walls of the casing by spider members 19. The casing is divided longitudinally into two parts having flanges secured together by bolts, and is provided at its discharge end with a constricted passage 10 leading to a chamber 9. A screened holder 26 filled with absorbent and oxidizing material extends completely across the discharge end of the chamber 9.
