Abstract

Centrifugal machines; moulding pipes.-Lined pipes or the like of concrete are made by introducing a mass of plastic concrete into a spinning machine, spinning the concrete centrifugally to form the pipe &c., then introducing a charge of cold aqueous bituminous composition into the pipe while the latter is still wet, spinning to distribute the composition centrifugally and allowing the whole to set and harden. The bituminous composition is made by mixing stone flour, powder or dust, and water, heating the mixture to boiling, and adding liquid bitumen, the product being agitated during' boiling, until a stiff paste results. Water is added to thin the composition. Comminuted slats, sand, or graphite may replace stone, flour, and pitch, tar, mineral waxes, or bitumen treated with sulphur may be used in. stead of bitumen. Pipes &c. lined as described above, and when dry may be further lined with a hot non-aqueous bituminous composition, by spinning. The pipes are preferably warmed with hot air &c. before introducing the hot bituminous composition, and when lined may be quickly cooled, from the outside, with cold water.
