Fire and smoke tube superheaters. -A U-tube superheater element has a part of its end at the outlet of the boiler flue or tube in which the element is placed surrounded by a casing which insulates the end of the superheated steam outflow leg of the element and absorbs and transfers heat to the end of the saturated steam inflow leg. The casing 5 around the end of an element tightly embraces the inflow leg 3 and is spaced from the outflow leg 1. The inner end of the space between the casing and the outflow leg may be closed to prevent the entrance of gases, or the space may be filled with heat-insulating material 7. The casing is formed with ribs 8 and is made in upper and lower parts, which are clamped on the legs by bolts 9. The casing may be made in two or more longitudinal sections each consisting of a single casting shrunk on the inflow leg and spaced from the outflow leg.
