Abstract

266,216. Hugh, P. G. Aug. 14, 1926. Tank wagons. - Tanks particularly of the kind utilized with sixwheeled vehicles including a tractor unit, are connected to the wheels without a chassis frame and comprise an outer shell accommodating concentrically one or more vessels for the liquid, with means for locating the vessels within the shell. The outer shell may comprise several sections a, b, c bolted together by means of U-shaped bands d secured to the respective sections, annular rings e being interposed. Each section contains an inner cylindrical vessel f fitting the section of the shell loosely and subsequently expanded by internal pressure to fit tightly, the intermediate space may be filled with insulating material such as wood, asbestos, &c. Flexible steel bands envelope the cylindrical vessels f and pass out through the shell and are secured thereto by nuts and bolts. A bracket l is secured to a flange d and a band k to support the spring of the rear wheels, while horizontal members o to support a turntable p for the intermediate wheels are secured to a band n and a flange d. The manholes are secured to the inner vessels.
