[Class 69 (i)] A storage tank comprises top and bottom curb rings and shell plates, flanged on their vertical edges, detachably secured thereto ; each section is readily portable. In a cylindrical tank, Fig. 2, the curb rings 13, 14 are of angle section and may be in sections having welded to opposite ends bent plates 16, 18, Fig. 6, the plates 16, 18 of adjacent sections being overlapped with material such as rubber between them, and having such a thickness that the curb rings are of substantially uniform section. The shell plates 12, Figs. 2 and 5, may be flexible and are secured to the curb rings by bolts &c. 20, packing 19 being interposed ; the outward flanges 21 of the shell plates are stiffened by plates welded to them, and bolted together. The floor and roof plates 11 are sector-shaped and bolted at their outer ends to the curb rings and at their inner ends to angle rings 30, Fig. 4, welded to centre-plates 29, 36 ; upstanding flanges 28 of the plates 11 are bolted together. The roof is supported by a preferably tubular pillar 34 which may be located between pads or have a threaded connection with a socket 35 on the top centre plate 36 for adjustment; the roof plates slope radially. In large tanks, the roof is further supported by means of struts 38, Fig. 8, secured at their upper ends to gusset plates 39 welded to a sectional angle ring 37 which is tied to the top centre plate 36 by radial angle irons 40 ; the lower ends of the struts are bolted to slotted gusset plates 43 welded to the bottom centre plate 29. Manholes or other fittings are preferably formed integral with one or more of the roof &c. plates. In large tanks, the roof and floor plates are of two or more radial parts with upstanding flanges bolted together ; the shell plates may also be in tiers connected together by flanges and bolts. In another form, the curb rings are of channel section with their flanges depending, the shell plates 12 being bolted to the outer flanges and flanges on the roof and floor plates being bolted to the inner flanges; the inner ends of the roof and floor plates may be similarly secured to upstanding flanges on the centre plates.
