Abstract

265,811. Gould, D. S., and Rauze, E. M. April 7, 1926. Buoys. --Means for locating and raising sunken ships, more particularly submarines, comprises a float suppprted at its ends between two members 50, 72, Fig. 2. The member 72 is movable away from the float by means operable from within the vessel. A cable 8 is attached to the float and wound upon a conical drum 3, and an air tube 24 is wound upon a second conical drum 20; the supports 50, 72 are mounted upon the top of the drums. The float may be formed of a pair of conically-ended cylinders 30, connected by metallic strips 34, Fig. 3, attached to bands 33. Rods 36 pivotally support the outer terminal 25 of the air tube 24, and a socket, to which a mast is attached, is connected to the cable 8. The supports comprise a pair of rigid standards 50 to engage one end of the float and a pair 76 pivoted at 73 to support the other end of the float, the pivoted members being operated by means of a worm gearing 57, 58, Fig. 4, within the submarine boat, which operates a screwed shaft 54 engaging a collar 70 having pins 71 engaging slots in a yoke 74 attached to the members 76,
