[Class 78 (ii).] A drum on which a heavy cable is to be wound is supported on a circular float 2 which is rotated around a fixed central tube 3 through gearing by a motor mounted on a platform on the tube, and is raised or lowered by admitting liquid to, or withdrawing liquid from, the tank 1. The float also may be lowered by admitting liquid to its interior through an aperture provided with a regulating valve, and may be raised by expelling this liquid either by a pump or by compressed gas.
