Abstract

271,552. Sciortino, A. Feb. 23, 1926. Buoys.-To facilitate communication with and enable cables to be let down for raising sunken submarines, bowl-shaped containers 3, Fig. 1 and 3, are provided for housing buoys 6, 7 which are allowed to float to the surface of the water, whereupon one of the buoys is detached, the line attached to it being bent on to a cable or hawser which by means of the other buoy is pulled underneath an eyebolt 1. There are two eyebolts, one at each end of the submarine, and arranged beneath them are sliding doors 19 capable of being operated by racks 22, pinions 21, and handles 20, to free the buoys. The buoys are connected together by a line 9 passing round a winch 10. Cables or hawsers are run under each eyebolt sufficient in number for the hoisting operation. A buoy 11, Fig. 6, is housed in a dome-shaped receptacle 6 and is provided with a balloon 29 which may be filled with hydrogen from a bottle 28 inside it when operated by a wire 15<1>. Another wire 15 is provided for wireless communication and for a mooring line for the buoy.
