Abstract
265,624. K. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 8, 1926, [Convention date]. Right to Patent relinquished. Respirators.- In respirators in which carbon monoxide is oxidized with the use of catalysts such as mixtures of metallic oxides, the deterioration of the catalyst through absorption of water is prevented by drying the gas by means of adsorptive substances in gel form. These substances eliminate also other impurities, such as hydrogen sulphide and iron carbonyl, which may injure the catalyst or be otherwise undesirable. Suitable substances are gels of silica, alumina, and stannic acid, and mixed gels or mixtures of gels may also be used. The adsorptive substance and the catalyst may be arranged in alternate layers, and the gas may be passed also through a layer of active charcoal. The catalyst may be revivified, if necessary, and the absorptive substance regenerated, by a current of gas, such as warm, air, applied in situ.
