Abstract

264,936. British Celanese, Ltd., and Ellis, G. H. Oct. 30, 1925. Degumming silk.-Natural silk in yarns, fabrics. or other goods consisting wholly thereof or containing, for example, cellulose acetate yarns, filaments, or fibres, is degummed by impregnating the goods with one or more sulpho-fatty acids or their alkali or ammonium salts and subsequently scouring the goods with a soapy solution. Turkey red oil, monopol oil, and oleine are given as examples of substances containing sulphofatty acids or their salts. Sodium silicate, sodium carbonate, soda ash, borax or other alkali silicates, carbonates or borates are preferably contained in both the impregnating and scouring solutions.
