Abstract

264,910. Graham, M., and Graham, A., (Representatives of Graham, E. A.), and Paddle, L. H. Oct, 23, 1925. Transformers. - The inter-valve couplings of low - frequency amplifiers comprise a transformer or auto-transformer 2, Fig. 2, with the primary coil or section shunted by a resistance 5 and a secondary coil or section connected through a condenser 8 to the grid of the next valve. The grid circuit of this valve includes a. biasing resistance 12 and may also include a choke coil 13 and a batterv 11<a>. The condenser 8 may be connected to the upper end of the coil 2, or may be adjustably connected by tappings 15 as shown. Alternatively a potentiometer resistance may be shunted across the coil 2 and the condenser 8 connected to the movable slider. The resistance 5 prevents distortion by equalizing the impedance of the output circuit of the valve for different frequencies. The choke 13 offers high impedance at voice frequencies, and prevents the condenser 8 and resistance 12 from shunting the transformer. Fig. 4 shows a constructional unit comprising the transformer winding 2 and core 20 with the condenser 8, resistances 5, 12, and choke coil 13 supported thereon by brackets. The unit may be enclosed in a metallic casing provided with terminals.
