Abstract

264,724. Roessler & Hasslacher Chemical Co. Jan. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 253,520. Sodium monoxide. - In the production of sodium monoxide according to the parent Specification by the oxidation of sodium with air or oxygen in the presence of a large proportion of finely divided sodium monoxide, the oxygen is supplied at such a rate that a constant temperature below the vaporization point of sodium is maintained. Only so much sodium is present at any time that, when melted it is absorbed by the monoxide without formation of a paste. During the reaction the materials are agitated and the sodium may be added continuously while the product is continuously withdrawn.
