In the process of producing hydroxylammonium sulphate by the reduction of NO with hydrogen in contact with a Pt catalyst in the presence of dilute sulphuric acid, the process is operated so that a volumetric ratio of H 2 : NO of from 3À5 : 1 to 5 : 1 is maintained in the reaction zone. The temperature of reaction is preferably 30-55‹ C., the catalyst used is preferably a supported platinum catalyst containing 0À3 to 5% Pt the carrier being graphite, and the starting acid may be 2N-6N H 2 SO 4 .
