Drawing-frames.-In the drawing of fibres, one or more pairs of toothed rollers adapted to retain the fibres without direct compression are combined with a finely fluted drawing-cylinder F, Fig. 2, and a segment G, which partly surrounds the cylinder and is held against it by adjustable spring means. The toothed rollers A. B are provided at the ends with leather &c. rings A', B<1>, which rest on collars C<1> on a long intermediate driving cylinder C. The upper rollers D, E rest on the rollers A, B and are driven thereby. The segment G is provided at its centre with a pivot pin F<1>, which rests on a plate spring H, which serves two segments and can be adjusted by screws J. The roving passes to the rollers through a reciprocating guide L carried by a bar K, which receives its motion from a crank, in such a manner as to have a period of rest at each end of its course. The roving has imparted to it in its passage an undulating movement and the speed of reciprocation of the guide L is regulated in accordance with the length of the fibres. For long fibres the intermediate rollers A, D, B, E may be further apart and additional pairs may be provided. The segment G may be situated above the drawing cylinder F. The top roller E, Fig. 5, rests on the lower roller on a level with the tops of the teeth c formed on the lower roller. The upper roller may also be provided with teeth which pass between the teeth on the lower roller without contacting therewith. The upper roller may be dispensed with and the teeth on the roller A, Fig. 7 inclined backwards, the roving R<1> passing round the roller A to the drawing cylinder F and segment G.
