Cutting slices in succession.-In a disc knife reciprocating table slicing-machine wherein the table is reciprocated independently by hand, the feed abutment is variable both to vary the point in the stroke of the table at which the feed is effected and also to vary the slice thickness. As shown in Fig. 1, the table A is reciprocated over the base D by a handle E which is also used for effecting rapid adjustments of the feed table. The feed table B is actuated by a feed screw F and nut segment G, the screw being rotated intermittently, preferably by a clutch 1 of the kind described in Specification 234,580. The feed stop comprises a roller 9 on an arm 10 carried on a bracket 11 longitudinally slidable on a rod 12 having positioning notches 15 engageable by pins 14. The bracket 11 is locked by an eccentric clamp 16. An arm 2 projecting from the clutch 1 is pivoted to a link 3 having a pin 4 engaging with an arcuate slot 5 in the pivoted trip member 7 which is returned by a spring 25 attached to the bearing of the feed screw. The member 7 has a flange 24 which coacts with the roller 9 so that on the forward movement of the table the roller 9 rides over the flange 24 and, in virtue of the slot 5, moves the trip without moving the clutch 1. After passing the roller the trip is returned by the spring 25 and on the return stroke of the table the trip is moved clockwise and actuates the link 3 and the clutch 1. This is effected at a point in the stroke determined by the longitudinal position of the bracket 11. To vary the slice thickness, the arm 10 is pivotally mounted on the bracket 11 and has a pin engageable with holes 19 on the bracket, or vice-versa. A knob 23 containing a spring which tends to engage the pin with a hole 19 is first pushed in to disengage the arm from the bracket, rotated to effect the slice thickness adjustment as indicated on a graduated scale or the knob and then released to allow the arm to lock itself. The mechanism may be arranged to effect the feed on the forward stroke of the tube and the clutch 1 may be of the pawl and ratchet type.
