Shaft furnaces; cooling.-A water-jacketed gas producer or shaft furnace a is provided with a low-pressure section d, through which the blast nozzles c extend, and a high-pressure section m surrounding the shaft above the nozzles. Water is circulated by a pump e through the low-pressure section and the coils f of a heat exchanger g which is supplied with water by a pipe k. A pump l circulates the water through the highpressure section m and pipe n leading to a boiler.
