Pistons. - A piston comprises a head 1 carrying the gudgeon-pin bosses, which are connected by a transverse web 6, and extending into a split skirt 7, to which it is connected by a vertical or inclined rib 9. Alternatively, the connection is by two ribs, the skirt being split in two places. The groove 12 between the head and the skirt contains an oil-scraper ring, and a split ring 13 inside the skirt deflects oil from the annular space between the head and the skirt.. The upper edge of the skirt may be cast integral with the head, the separation being effected by turning the groove 12.
