Abstract
261,991. Niccoli, E. May 13, 1926. Potassium sulphate. - In the production of potassium sulphate from sea water, as described in Specification 247,405, by extracting the double sulphate of potassium and magnesium from a raw mixed salt containing sodium chloride, magnesium sulphate, double potassium and magnesium chloride, potassium sulphate, sodium bromide &c., and thereafter treating a solution of the double sulphate with milk of lime to precipitate the magnesium as hydroxide, the raw mixed salt is treated with a quantity of cold water insufficient to give a total solution, whereby the sodium salts and chlorides present are removed, and the required double sulphate remains as a residue. Any double sulphate which goes into solution is recovered bv using the later washing waters for the raw salt' repeatedly.
