Circulating or passing fluids through materials on perforated tubes and drums. - Relates to apparatus for passing a treating liquor through yarn packages, prefera.bly with subsequent passage of air to extract the surplus liquor, and particularly applicable to the washing of artificial silk yarns, and comprises in one form a cavity plate 16, Fig. 1, rotatable on a perforated hollow bearing 12 connected at 11 to a liquor pump 13 and at 19 to an air pump. The yarn packages 24 wound on flanged bobbins are carried on hollow or fluted spindles 22 which are screwed into the cavity-plate 21, whilst the plate is rotated slowly by a worm 29. The tank is filled and, after circulation of the liquor, emptied, rotation of the cavity-plate is stopped, and air is then drawn through the yarns. In a modification in which rotation of the cavity-plate is continuous, the cavity-plate has radial chambers 34. Fig. 5, communicating with the yarn supports, the chambers 34 registering successively with chambers 37, 36 in the hollow bearing connected respectively to the liquor and air pumps. The liquid in the tank reaches only to the level of the partition 32 in the bearing, and the yarn support's are removed and fresh ones substituted while the chambers 34 register with the arc 39. The other ends of the yarn supports 22 may be secured to a rotatably mounted plate.
