Abstract

Walls; roofs.-A steel building comprises wall .plates 1 and roof plates 2 having flanges 1<a>, 2a along one or both longitudinal marginal edges, which flanges in themselves form the webs of, in effect, continuous girders extending from one foundation 3 through the eaves and the ridge to the other foundation 3. The continuity of the girders is attained by overlapping the flanges of the wall and roof plates, or by straps overlapping butting flanges and bolting, or otherwise interconnecting the flanges themselves. In the construction illustrated, the flanges 1<a>, 2<a> are connected by brackets 5 which carry the ceiling joints 6. The wall plates 1 are overturned at their upper edges to form flanges 4 connectible to the roof plates 2. Adjacent plates are arranged to overlap and to be connected together by rivets or bolts, felt or other suitable material being inserted between the contacting faces. The wall plates are connected to contiguous angle bars secured to the foundations 3. Alternate plates may be unflanged, the others being provided with a flange on each longitudinal edge.
