The combustion products pass over the boiler tubes a connected to upper and lower drums b, c and escape through an outlet i to the chimney. The boiler is enclosed bv refractory insulating material f covered with a sheet metal casing. When the boiler is used for generating steam a steam drum m is provided. In a modification, the combustion chamber is cylindrical, having in its base an annular slot beneath which is arranged a ring-shaped burner.
