Abstract
259,382. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Schroeder, G. Oct. 14, 1925. Brush-holders; commutation, improving by means of electromagnets outside commutators.- In a commutator in which the outer ends of the brush arms are connected to the connecting-rings or like members for the reduction of flash-overs at overloads, the rings are placed at the inner end of the commutator and the connecting-pieces are bent back and joined to the rings at the inner ends of the arms. In the form shown, the foursided brush arm 2 - - 5 is bolted to a support (not shown) through an anti-flash barrier 7 which enters a groove in the commutator 9. The insulated conductor 10 is bolted to the outer end of the arm at 11 and is bent back over the arm to the barrier, where it is attached to the connecting-ring 14. The ring of opposite polarity is placed at a greater radial distance, as shown by dotted lines, and alternate conductors 10 are connected to the rings, which may be on the armature side of the barrier, as shown, or on the commutator side.
