UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIEE.
PIERRE JEAN RENE POSTEL-VINAY, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO SOCIETE DES MOTEURS SALMSON (SYSTEME CANTON UNNE), OF PARIS, FRANCE.
DISTRIBUTING BRUSH HOLDER FOR MAGNETOS WITH TWO SIMULTANEOUS SPARKS.-
Application filed March 16, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PIERRE JEAN RENE POSTEL-VINAY, citizen of the French Republic, residing at Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Distributing Brush Holders for Magnetos with Two Simultaneous Sparks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a brushholder for distributing high-tension current in magneto-electric machines producing two simultaneous sparks.
This device comprises a brush holder socket in insulating material, mounted in the frame of the magneto and containing a central conducting rod and an electrically conductive tube insulated from each other by a sleeve, the rod and tube being connected at one end with commutator segments connected with the ends of the secondary circuit, and at the other end with brushes which rub upon the contact pieces of the distributing device.
In the accompanying drawing and by way of example:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a brush holder constructed according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding diagrammatic end view (from the armature side).
The ends of the secondary winding of the magneto are connected respectively with the conducting segments 11, 12 provided on an insulating ring 17 of the armature. This provides for the departure of the two secondary circuits. Within the frame of the magneto is mounted the brush holder 7 constituted by a socket in insulating material which contains a central rod 2 and a tube 6 made both of a conductive material and separated from each other by an insulating bushing 5. A contact brush 13 co-acting with the segment 12 is connected by a connecting member 14 with a spring contact member 18 which bears against a nut 1 screwed upon the end of the rod 2. Another contact brush 13 co-acting with the segment 11 is connected by a connecting piece 14 with a conducting ring 3 surround ing the brush-holder 7 and connected with the tube 6 by a small sleeve 4. The central conducting rod 2 is held fixed in the brush Serial No. 452,812.
holder by means of the nut 10 which is centered upon a stop portion 20 of the frame.
Two brush- holding members 15 and 16 secured to the head 9 of the brush-holder 7 are connected one with the central rod 2, and the other with the outer tube 6 by the coupling pieces 8, and they transmit the cur rent to the contact pieces 19, 19 of the distributing device.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for electric connection in magnetos with two simultaneous sparks, comprising in combination a magneto frame, a commutator rotatably mounted in said frame and having two conducting segments, means for conveying a high tension electric current to said segments, two high tension inlet brushes mounted in the magneto frame and adapted to bear upon said coinmutator segments, a brush holding socket made of insulating material, means for rotatably supporting said brush-holding socket in the magneto frame, a central con-- ducting rod extending longitudinally through said socket, an insulating sleeve surrounding said central rod, an outer conduct ing tube surrounding said insulating sleeve. means for separately connecting the central rod and the outer tube to the said high tension inlet brushes, respectively, two outlet brushes mounted in the said socket adapted to rub upon contact members of the spark distributing device and means for connecting the central rod and outer tube to said outlet brushes.
'2. A device for electric connection in magnetos with two simultaneous sparks, com prising in combination a magneto frame, a commutator rotatably mounted in said frame and having two conducting segments, means for conveying a high tension electric current to said segments, two high tension inlet brushes mounted in the magneto frame and adapted to bear upon said commutator segments, a brush holding socket made of insulating material, a central conducting rod extending horizontally through said socket, nuts on both ends of said central rod, an abutment on the magneto frame with which one of the nuts is adapted to engage, a spring mounted plunger in the magneto rub upon contact members of the spark distrib-utlng device and means for connecting the central rod and outer tube to said outlet brushes. k
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this spemfication.
PIERRE JEAN RENE PQSTEL-VHIAY.
