Abstract

258,796. Stahlschmidt, F. A. E. March 24, 1926. Ornamenting. - Brass articles or brass-coated articles are coloured by immersing them in a bath comprising caustic potash, potassium sodium tartrate, and copper sulphate, the treatment being effected without the application of heat. The bath is prepared by mixing together solutions in water of the tartrate and potash and then mixing with a solution of the sulphate at the ordinary temperature or at a slightly in. creased temperature. To obtain a golden appearance, such as that of gold, shell-gold, or tom bac, the articles are then treated with dilute sulphuric acid, any remaining acid being neutralized by means of a caustic solution.
