Abstract

6195. Watremez, E. T. J. June 16, 1914, [Convention date]. Bleaching and washing, materials for.- Vegetable fibres are treated, to facilitate subsequent bleaching, by being boiled in a bath formed bv dissolving a metal, such as zinc, in sodium hydrate or carbonate, and, after rinsing, being treated with acid, such as a mixture of sulphuric and sulphurous acids. The treated fibres may be boiled in alkali, and treated with acid before bleaching. Soap or soluble fat or oil (sulphoricinate of soda or ammonia) may be added to the first bath. The natural colouring matters of the fibres are stated to be reduced.
