202,591. Bloxam, A. G., (Lanil-Akt.- Ges.). March 13, 1923. Fibres, treating.-In the manufacture of artificial silk from vegetable fibres such as flax or ramie, the fibres, after combing are first boiled in 20 per cent caustic soda lye and pressed between iron rollers, then oxidixed by passing through a cold filtered solution of chloride of lime, preferably acidified with acetic acid. squeezed, washed, and finally boiled in a bath containing either soap to which caustic sod! may be added, or a soluble oil, or a hydrocarbon- Other alkaline lyes and oxidizing agents may be used.
