Abstract
258,556. Pasteur, C. Sept. 15, 1925, [Convention date]. Vehicle - window opening and closing apparatus for sliding vehicle windows of the " cabriolet " or " internal conduit " kind is of the rack- and-pinion kind, two trains of pinions 11, of odd and even numbers, on opposite sides of the central operating pinion, being used to actuate the rack pinions. The racks 2 are secured to sashes 3 and both are secured to sliding spring g frames 6, co-operating wedges the guides and frames. The pinions are mounted in suitably-positioned spindles carried between two spaced bars 8 connecting the frame members 6. A self-sustaining device is provided such as a spring 20 engaging the fixed casing, Fig. 7, the spring being released by a projection on the star-shaped piece 22 driven by the handle during a lost motion before engagement with stops or pawls 16 on the disc 15 connected to the pinion 12. In a modification, the train of gears is arranged vertically and each pinion successively engages one of a pair of short racks on a slider to which is pivotally secured a grooved support for the bottom rail of the sash. The racks are connected to the slider by rollers adapted to engage the edges of the guide-bars and a spring tongue on the slider engages the guide to prevent rattle.
