Abstract
258,445. Taylor, L. Nov. 19, 1925. Rollers for use in dye-jigs &c. are provided with a reserve length of trunnion housed as to its unused length within the roller. In use, when the trunnion is worn, it is withdrawn from the roller, the worn piece is cut off, and the remaining trunnion length is re-clamped in position. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a steel roller a having an ebonite or rubber covering is provided with a boss b having tapered screwed portions b<1>, b<2> to receive a tapered and screwed split wedge piece c for securing the trunnion length t. The wedge tins a shaped end c<4> by which it can be turned, a hole b<3> being provided in the boss b for holding by a tool while the clamping device is being unscrewed or screwed up. Packing may be used to prevent dye liquor from passing to the interior of the roller. In a modification, the split wedge and boss are tapered in the opposite direction from that shown in Fig. 1, the wedge being secured by external lock-nuts. In other forms, the boss is formed with a split and tapered sleeve for engaging the trunnion, the. locking-device being screwed on to a portion of the sleeve or into a screwed aperture in the boss.
