Abstract
257,892. Soc. Anon. des Ateliers de Construction et Fonderies de Jeumont, Anciens Etablissements T. Haut. Sept. 5, 1925, [Convention date]. Rolling. - Relates to a watercooled roller used in apparatus for producing plate glass. According to the inrention, the water is supplied through one or two axial tubes to the middle of the interior space of the roller and allowed to escape through both ends. The roller is thus cooled more uniformly, and distortion due to irregular heating is minimized. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the water is supplied through a single tube 9 passing through one of the trunnions, D, and the flow divides and passes out through passages 4, 4<1>, formed in both trunnions. Spaces 11, 11', of larger diameter than the space in the interior of the cylinder, are formed at the ends, and the water passes through the spaces into the passages 4, 4' bv way of radial passages 3, 3<1>. The purpose of this construction is to prevent air from becoming trapped in the interior of the roller. In another construction, the trunnion C is also fitted with a water supply tube similar to the tube 9. The roller may also be provided with a central core 19, Fig. 5, to increase its weight. The core has a central partition 19<1> and the water, supplied to its interior through axial tubes 9, 9<1>, passes through holes 10 into the interior of the outer cylinder and escapes at the ends.
